Reflexology

Reflexology is generally conducted on people’s feet, as this is by far the most relaxing way of receiving the treatment.  It is a complementary therapy based on the belief that there are reflex areas in the feet and hands which are believed to correspond to all organs and parts of the body.  The treatment may alleviate and improve symptoms being experienced by a client and is very useful for reducing stress and tension.

Prior to any treatment a detailed medical history is taken and updated before subsequent treatments.  Sessions are conducted in a wonderful Lafuma recliner or on a massage couch – at the client’s preference.  We can also use a client’s own chair if preferred.  The client remains fully clothed, except for their feet where they will be asked to remove footwear and socks.

The feet are first checked and then gently cleaned and treated to a warming massage before the treatment.  Reflexology involves the use of thumb and finger pressures applied to the feet in specific and distinct patterns – it is not painful, with an appropriate level of pressure being applied.  The entire treatment generally lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes and ends with a luxurious foot massage, with foot cream.  Shorter, adjusted treatments may be appropriate in the first instance for 2 to 3 sessions, before full treatments can commence.  This would be discussed in full beforehand.

Full records are kept of appointments, foot conditions, foot reactions, client’s ongoing health, client feedback/preferences and progress.  For individuals in good health, single treatments are beneficial and relaxing.  We find reflexology to be very helpful for individuals who want to establish if they can improve their general well being.  In this regard, we  recommend a course of treatments.  Realistically a course of 8 treatments is ideal for clients, with weekly treatments for the first month and then two weekly or monthly thereafter for maintenance.

Reflexology can be a wonderfully relaxing experience where you can take time out from everyday pressures.  Kate’s touch will help you relax which can help improve mood, aid sleep and relieve tension.  The result is an overall sense of wellbeing.

Treatments are conducted in client’s own homes generally but can be undertaken in the Treatment Room.  A combined treatment with an Indian Head Massage beforehand provides the ultimate in relaxation.
